It's with a heavy heart dear readers, that I have to tell you it's over. We've had fun while it lasted but young Edward has been planting his shoots in another seed bed recently. Last week I barely saw him and when he did come round and get busy in the garden he was reeking of cheap perfume. I hate to say it readers but I suspect he's got a new hoe.
Hello readers and welcome to this, my second edition of Mrs Hansell's pantry. My weekly column about my favourite gardening, free-scoring footballer.
This week saw young Edward rewarded for his perseverance with a place in the starting eleven for a change. Apparently there was some doubts over his stamina but I can assure you there is no problem in that department. He takes my breath away when he goes at it in the garden on a warm afternoon. There's no stopping him when he's giving my seed beds a good forking.
Sure enough, Edward lasted the duration and gave everybody the champagne finish when he rifled home a long range effort from the right flank. That's 2 goals in 2 weeks and not to mention the delightful balls that he was spraying all over the box again.
The 90 minutes obviously took it's toll on young Edward because he was stiff as a board in the garden on Monday and there were signs of a substantial swelling when I offered him a rub on his thighs after he had been going at my bush like the clappers for 45 minutes.
Tomorrow sees Edward adding a new fountain to the Koi pond and he has been getting his hose out ready this evening to see if it will reach my water feature in the morning. I doubt they'll be any difficulty.
Must go now, my husbands due home any minute and I've not got anything ready for his tea. Honestly I don't know how I keep anything in my pantry what with Edward's appetite at lunchtime and my husband expecting his oats in the evenings.
Speak to you all next week when hopefully we can celebrate 3 goals in 3 weeks with a drop of my Elderberry wine....
Hello readers and welcome to my first ever blog for the Pig & Fiddle football team.
It's been a heck of a week here in Bath with the weather not being able to make it's mind up.
On Sunday young Edward (my gardener) scored his first goal for the Pig & Fiddle this season and proved to that manager that he should be given a starting berth every week if you want my opinion. Talk about commitment to the cause, in any weather Ed is always up for it and if the way he handles my clematis is anything to go by, he is a very talented player.
Today is the complete opposite with the weather and I'm on the laptop in the garden while young Edward is rummaging around in my undergrowth with a tremendously big tool. We've just finished a glass of my homemade lemonade and the sun is so strong that Edward has taken his shirt off to cool down a little.
This afternoon we are planning on draining the Koi pond and then I know Ed is very keen to get his hands on my hanging baskets before my husband gets home.
I must press on, the lunch won't make itself and I know how big Ed's appetite is.
Bye for now, more news soon
Mrs H xx
